Vortices is a series of studies in gouache which follow the completion of a painting, Urchin Heart; that painting marked a significant change in the way that I work, and was inspired in part by Richard Diebenkorn's Imaginary Landscape series. Urchin Heart was executed in acrylic on canvas. Two of the studies are also shown below:
